MSS Eid Celebration 2012

Assalamualaikum. :)

Well, how are you doing?
I hope all is well.

So, last saturday, The Malaysian (Student) Society known as MSS had a not so little Eid Celebration. As mention before this, I promised to update on this didn't I. :D

The event went well, at least from my view. Me and Ika was a bit (a bit?) late so we went to the children nursery place instead of the real venue and waited until all the formal stuff ends. Haha. It was fun though, taking care of kids. I must admit, I am not really good handling children. I don't know how to actually take care of them. What I do know is to play with them. Yeah, I usually join the cycle not watch over it. ;D I'm still young at heart you know.

It was also my first time ever feeling comfortable holding a baby. I got a really bad experience with baby before this. So, Alam & K.Bella! I can get a babysitter job next year right? haha.

Well, apart from that, after the "Formal" event finished, we make our way to the main venue for some other informal stuff. Oh wait! But first, I need to tell you about the cooking which happened before it. :D

The not so
"Ayam masak merah"
Guildford court or more precisely, the Compton house participated in the cooking for eid celebration. We had to cook for 30 people! We can't even cook our own food properly, what more to cook for other people? Nevertheless, we nailed it! Yeah, me, Ika, and Judith. Close enough. Initially, we wanted to cook "Ayam masak merah" which is some sort of chicken dish which is spicy and sour at the same time (red coloured) but I have no idea what happened, it turned out to be a completely different dish. haha. It tasted good though. Still proud of the successful failure. Not to mention we had to cooked it in such a limited time. From my previous post, you can see that me and my flatmates were having a small party, yeah it dragged to almost 1am. So, the cooking process could only be done afterwards. We end up sleeping at somewhere around 4 in the morning. (",) Does this explain why we were late to the event? hee'

My proudly "Pengat Pisang"
On the morning itself, I woke up pretty early after only 2 hours of sleep to cook "Pengat Pisang" (banana something). It was my first attempt, only guided by tips (not even a proper portion of ingredients- only used a hunch) given by my family and I managed to complete it. MY FIRST TIME EVER!! I don't ever know we had that dish before back in my home. We used to eat it at Leha's. Do not really remember ever eating it or making it at home though. (",)

Excited me holding my prize.
Okay, back to the main topic. We went to the main venue, and it was time for price giving ceremony for certain competition. I won the dessert competition with my Pengat Pisang. haha. What a shocker! Beginner's luck huh. Initially, I had no intention to enter the competition, I really wanted to just contribute some dessert for the event. They only announced that there is a competition after I have bought the ingredients. So, I say, why not. Pretty excited though. :D

After that, we continued for lunch. It was time for our chicken dish to shine. haha. I, myself did not eat my dish. Of course I would want to try other people's dish. Like duhhh. The event continues, etc etc, and it was time for photography session. My most favourite part of any event apart from food. Snap snap, yada yada yada, okay done. That is it.

Haha, I have nothing more to share with you except tells you that being a part of Malaysian society here, abroad, really increases my patriotism towards my own country. Enough said.

Here are some of the pictures as a result from forcing people to take our picture. haha. ENJOY!

By the way, if you really want to get to know our (Malaysian) culture, you must try the food. A note to you, food is the best thing to bring us Malaysians together. Hey, we do have varieties of them. Not to forget, if you want to try some, be aware of the Malaysian Delicacies competition here in Surrey on the 18th of November 2012. Get your chance to taste some of our greatness!
